Pursuing the Retirement Opportunity

For most banks, retirement represents a large but untapped opportunity. In the first half of 2023, US retirement assets exceeded $35 trillion (nearly 1/3 of all US financial assets), yet bank’s share of the 401(k) market is negligible and it’s only marginally better in the IRA space. This wasn’t always the case, but as large providers such as Fidelity, Vanguard, and Empower rose to dominant positions over the last two decades, banks largely retreated.
However, as employers and employees increasingly look for fiduciary advice on their retirement plans and individual accounts, respectively, banks are well-positioned to rebuild their presence in the retirement markets. Not only are they experienced fiduciaries, but they also maintain relationships thousands of employers and millions of individual participants.
In this webinar, Wallace Blankenbaker of the Retirement Leadership Forum will share their research on how banks are pursuing the retirement opportunity with a model focused on offering advice (rather than administration) to employers and their employees. The session will include success stories on how this shift has led to increased growth and profitability, while significantly reducing the need for capital investments.
